Transfer of more than 50% of demoltion projects in Europe

27.05.2020

The European Demolition Association (EDA) has prepared a special report to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on European dismantling companies.

This report was prepared with the participation of companies from 18 European countries using an online survey conducted between May 6-15, 2020.

The report includes diagrams that compare information in each individual country with information in Europe as a whole.

The social and economic consequences of the self-isolation regime that have affected the dismantling industry in Europe are presented. The EDA management monitors the situation and supports the industry, exchanges experience and valuable information between the members of the Association.

The full report with a graphical part is available at the link https://joom.ag/ma9C

Key data:

  • The impact of COVID-19 in the dismantling industry has resulted in the relocation of 63% of projects in Europe, while the number of planned projects that have remained unchanged is 9%.
  • In general, the dismantling industry has been suspended for several weeks (53%), however there are several countries that have not been suspended, such as Denmark, Finland, Sweden and the Netherlands.
  • In the first half of May, about half of all demolition sites in Europe were already open, which indicates the resumption of work in the industry and a return to a normal rhythm of activity.
  • After the period of March and April, when some European countries faced the problem of providing personal protective equipment, about 2/3 of those surveyed said that they currently have a sufficient number of PPE.
  • 64% of dismantling companies in Europe were forced to cut their staff, although 27% only temporarily cut it.
