IPS (intelligent protection system in hydraulic breakers).
Epiroc heavy hydraulic breakers are equipped with a patented Intelligent Protection System (IPS), which is a combination of Epiroc’s popular AutoControl and StartSelect functions, and automatically adapts the performance of the hammer to different working conditions.
How it works:
– When activated, the breaker always starts in AutoStart mode. The piston operates in short stroke even without contact between chisel and piston.
– As long as the application requires only slight contact pressure between chisel and material piston keeps operating in short stroke and the breaker remains in AutoStart mode.
– As soon as the contact pressure between chisel and material increases piston starts operating in long stroke and the breaker switches automatically into the AutoStop mode.
– When the chisel breaks through the material and the piston can no longer reach its impact face the breaker automatically shuts off.
IPS allows more accurate and significantly faster positioning of the hammer due to the centering effect and avoids idle blows, which often lead to damage of the working tool and increased wear of replacement parts. Uptime is improved as no operator intervention is required with IPS and therefore the workflow is not interrupted.
