Dismantling of sections of the linear part of the main gas pipelines for the needs of LLC GAZPROM TRANSGAZ SARATOV.

In 2020, within the framework of a contract between LLC Likvidator and OJSC Gazprom, a unique experience was gained in dismantling an underwater crossing of a pipeline with a diameter of 530 mm across the Volga River, with a length of more than 7.5 km. The site was located near the city of Saratov. The work was carried out on the ship’s course in a strong current and constant gusty wind at a river depth of up to 22 m, with a pipe buried in silt up to 6 m and with a lot of weights. Also, work was carried out on land and wetlands.

Practical benefit for the customer – the presence of the dismantled pipeline contradicted the existing norms and rules of ecology.

Uniqueness for the company and the customer:
The dismantled section is a crossing over the river. Volga Line 2 and 3 of the Stepnoye-Storozhovka gas pipeline of the Mokroussky LPUMG.

1. To carry out the work, 4 vessels of the “river-sea” class were chartered, and permission was obtained to move the fairway.
2. The works were carried out at a depth of up to 22 m in conditions of strong currents and constant gusty winds.
3. Depth of the pipe into the silt at a depth of 6 m.
4. Part of the pipeline was dismantled in the wetland.
5. The dismantled pipeline passed through 2 rivers, an island and a lake.
6. Land dismantling also took place.
7. The project indicates the presence of weights on the pipeline every 4 m, in fact, the weights were located along the entire length of the pipeline, which significantly complicated dismantling work.
8. The work was carried out in 3 shifts (around the clock) and was completed within a clearly defined time frame.
9. The work involved more than 40 units of special machinery and equipment, including 2 water 16-ton cranes with attachments grab.
10. Upon completion of the work, the Likvidator Company replenished the aquatic biological resources by launching 85,000 young carp and sterlet in the Volga River.

More than 40 units of special machinery and equipment were used:

1. Crawler excavators Hyundai 330 with attachments (boom length 18 m)
2. Crawler excavator Hyundai 300
3. River pontoons
4. Excavator-Amphibian dredgers
5. Floating crane 16 tons with attachments grab 2 units.
6. 1,000th barges
7. River pusher tug
8. River-sea boats
9. Diesel winches
10. Dump trucks
11. Truck and manipulator cranes.
12. Tractors with low-loader trawls and semi-trailers
13. Machines for cleaning pipelines from insulation
14. Nozzles for excavator bucket

Specialists: 50 people, including divers and service personnel of river equipment. The work was carried out in 3 shifts (around the clock).

The pipeline dismantling process consisted of 5 stages:

1. Development of soil in order to extract the pipe without damage.
2. Application of dredgers of various modifications
3. Lifting the pipeline onto a barge and transporting it to the base
4. Cleaning pipes from insulation (logs of 10 m) in 3 ways: 1) By means of a nozzle on an excavator bucket 2) By a machine for cleaning the pipeline from insulation 3) By manual modification.
5. Delivery of cleaned pipes to the customer.
